Many of us need a good cup of coffee to start our day off right, and the caffeine helps to wake us up and give us energy. However, what if you don’t want the caffeine or want to lower your caffeine intake?
There are many reasons to try decaffeinated coffee. Perhaps you are sensitive to caffeine in coffee, and so you try to avoid it for health reasons, or you’re drinking a cup of coffee at night but don’t want it to keep you up all night long… No one likes being tired in the morning. Plus, for many people, caffeine can increase anxiety, depression, and heart rate.
Whatever your reason, you don’t have to go without, and your decaf coffee should be every bit as delicious and enjoyable as any caffeinated coffee.
We offer a wide variety of decaf coffees that will let you enjoy that bold flavor without the hype. In fact, decaffeinating your coffee can help bring out some of its more unique decaf flavors, allowing all flavor seekers to rejoice in their K-cup compatible pods as they place them in the Keurig.
Making Decaf Coffee
Unfortunately, there are no caffeine-free coffee beans, so how do we get decaffeinated coffee?
As you can tell from the name, decaf coffee is simply coffee with the caffeine removed from the beans. Decaffeinated coffees typically contain only 1-3% of the original caffeine content. While this means the coffee is not completely caffeine-free, it does mean that most of the caffeine has been removed, and you likely will not feel the effects of the caffeine you are consuming.
One of the most common ways to decaffeinate coffee is by steaming the beans. Steaming the coffee beans before roasting them allows them to open up and release the caffeine. The beans are then soaked in water and covered with a solution made up of water, organic solvents, or carbon dioxide. This solution then allows caffeine to be extracted from the beans.
This extraction process pulls most of the caffeine out before the beans are dried, roasted, and ready for brewing.
Flavor Matters Above All Else in Decaf Coffee
Some people prefer decaffeinated coffee, and we don’t judge anyone for that!
One of the biggest things that people are afraid of when switching to decaffeinated coffee is losing the flavor of the beverage. If this is your concern, don’t worry! These decaffeinated coffees are still full of flavor. After all, that is what decaffeinated coffee drinkers are here for.
More than anything, our decaf coffee drinkers return for the flavor rather than for the energy coffee, and here at Flavor Nation, we’re all about that flavor.
